Haviva Reick Figurine

Haviva Reick (1914-1944) a Zionist leader, Palmach fighter, and parachutist, was born and raised in Slovakia. Joining "HaShomer HaTsa'ir" at 18, she became a local leader, organizing immigration and fundraising. In 1939, she moved to Israel and joined Kibbutz Ma'anit. In 1942, she volunteered for the Palmach and was chosen for the "Jewish Parachutists of Mandate Palestine" unit, destined for missions behind enemy lines in Europe. Parachuted into her native Banská Bystrica in September 1944, she established a radio station, assisted Jewish refugees, linked with partisan groups, and rescued downed Allied aircrews. Following a German takeover, she created a mountain hideout for Jewish fighters. After a surprise attack she was captured, killed and buried in a mass grave. In 1952, her remains were moved to Mount Herzl.
