Abba Kovner Figurine
Abba Kovner (1918-1987) A poet, novelist, fighter, and partisan. Winner of the Israel Prize for Poetry. Born in Crimea, he grew up in Vilnius and was a leader in the “HaShomer HaTsa'ir" movement. During the Holocaust, he authored the powerful manifesto "Let us not go like sheep to the slaughter!" and was instrumental in organizing the Jewish resistance in the Vilnius Ghetto. Post-war, Kovner led the "Brihah" movement, aiding thousands of Jewish survivors to reach Israel and a leader of the "Nakam" revenge movement. During the War of Independence, he served as the cultural officer of the Givati Brigade. His testimony at the Eichmann trial in May 1961 had a profound impact on Israel's collective memory of the Holocaust. Kovner's inspiring life story is also expressed in his poetry, which became the voice of an entire generation.
